Tom Wesselmann was an American painter, sculptor and graphic artist who is seen as an important representative of Pop Art. He combined figurative painting with object montages. His work often shows highly stylized and blown-up details of utensils from contemporary consumer society. His works kept getting bigger and in the 1970s he started making shaped canvasses in which he worked out his close-ups freestanding on sawn sheet material.
